About Exhibition

Yukari Bunya was born in Okayama prefecture in 1985. She graduated from Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music, department of Music composer in 2008 and completed the Graduate School of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, department of Inter Media Art. Now she lives in Aichi prefecture.
Early in her carrier, she came into the limelight with her unique impromptu-like drawings with using pen and carbon paper. She was accepted at Gunma Biennale for Young Artists 2010 and participated in Aichi Triennale 2010 Exhibition. In 2012, she participated in the exhibition, “Position 2012: Contemporary Art from Nagoya 〜The World seen from this Position〜”, at Nagoya City Art Museum (6/2-7/16). In 2013, she participates in the exhibition, “VOCA 2013: The Vision of Contemporary Art 2013".
As the title of this exhibition says, any specific motifs do not show up in her works. She draws various lines with following her instinct. These lines have a sense of tension bountiful faces, which are unique to impromptu-like drawing, and they lead us to the lively experience of art.
In this her third solo exhibition at Gallery Jin, about 25 new drawings will be exhibited. Additionally, she will perform live drawing on the glass wall surface of our gallery. Her drawings become increasingly attractive and powerful. Please enjoy!

Artist Comments:
“I draw lines in accordance with the peculiarities in my hand writing and I organize these lines into a picture plane by using the structure which was born in the process of drawing. By drawing lines extemporaneously and intuitively with a playful mind, I express the decisiveness and graciousness on the picture plane.”(Yukari Bunya)

※Her work is also exhibited at  “VOCA2013 –The Vision of Contemporary Art 2013-“.  VOCA2013 is held around the same time as this exhibition.
