About Exhibition
Shoji Miyamoto was born in Osaka prefecture in 1988. In 2010, he graduated Osaka University of Art with a degree in fine arts and now lives in Osaka. He received Storage Prize and Audience Award at 34th University Prints Exhibition in 2009, Incentive Prize at Annual Exhibition of Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art in 2010 and participated in “TAMAVIVANT” at Tama Art University in 2013. Now he is one of the most promising young artists of his generation.
In his works, familiar motifs like Sushi or Fruits show up. They are sometimes humorous and sometimes poetically. Both domestic and overseas fans are attracted by the charm of his works like humorous forms, depth feel and transparency which is brought by overlapping of the print layers. In this his fourth time solo exhibition at Gallery Jin, 15 new woodcut prints is exhibited.
<Artist Comment>
"I feel as if my work is gradually gets away from my hands when I overprint transparent colors. This feeling is similar to flying a paper plane, setting a bamboo leaf boat afloat or solving an equation"
